Human Rights
The objective of Human program is “to conduct research and generate action to prevent and end grave abuses of human rights, and to demand justice for those whose rights have been violated.
We focus promote and protect the rights of marginalized populations through capacity building. Our primary beneficiaries are youths and women. Some of our recent projects include:
- Children’s Right Education
- One Billion rising for Justice on violence against women
- Break the Chain of Sexual/Domestic Violence against women in Cameroon
- “A Million Fathers” Campaign; Engaging men, fathers, brothers, sons and friends to advocate against gender base violence in Cameroon
Economic Empowerment/Agriculture
We provide capacity building and/or resources to support research, development and knowledge transfer leading to innovative agriculture, agri-food and agri-based practices, processes and products for small farm holders and cooperatives.
We provide interest free and repayable funding to cooperatives to facilitate the pre-commercial demonstration, commercialization and adoption of innovative agri-based products, technologies, processes or services.
We provide capacity building for youths and women in a variety of income generating activities.
Recently and in the past we are work with small farm holders and cooperatives cultivating Sorghum, cocoa, coffee, Maize, Cassava and Rice. Some videos of our past projects can be viewed through our youtube channel.
Environment
Cameroon enjoys striking ecological, cultural and anthropological diversity. Nearly 90% of the African ecosystems are represented in its 475,650km² of land characterized by tributaries, creeks and lakes. Development in its ecosystem has always been conducted in a disorganized manner, thus resulting in the destruction of vast ecosystems in the last few decades. Such damage primarily derives from diverse phenomena provoked and sustained by conscious and unconscious actions by man such as, poaching, overgrazing, pollution, uncontrolled bush fires and shifting agriculture. In Cameroon, forests covering over 22 million hectares has been exploited for several decades now for lumber, Timber and firewood. This type of exploitation does not go without perceptible impact on the environment. As a matter of fact, the forest is receding by about 100,000 hectares per annum. In respect to biodiversity, in the last several decades Cameroon has recorded significant damage to its ecosystems following the sustainable exploitation of its biological resources (Cameroon Poverty Reduction Strategy Paper, April 2008).
Volunteer/Internship Opportunities
The volunteer program will permit Cameroonians and other nationals worldwide to work for a period of time with OGCEYOD based on an agreed contract between OGCEYOD and volunteer (s) or volunteer’s institution.
The objectives of the program are:
- To strengthen the commitment of young people in the corporation development field.
- To promote intercultural exchange between volunteers and local population.
- To learn with others; to help disadvantaged persons and become aware of and engage in sustainable development.
- To mentor volunteers so that they possess the necessary skills to meet the needs/challenges of globalization.
- To strengthen the civil society and assist local partners.
These volunteers must have the following predispositions:
- The involvement and interest in development politics.
- The desire to live and work under local conditions in Cameroon during their volunteer services.
- The desire to learn and work in a team.
- Participation in an educational program during their engagement with OGCEYOD
Note: The volunteer program may also provide opportunities for Cameroonians to travel abroad for exchange programs.
